Avril Balfrey
Avril Balfrey has been increasingly involved in ISPE in various functions participating as a charter member of the Process/Product Development COP steering committee. One of her most recent contributions was organizing the first professional poster session at last year’s Annual Meeting on behalf of the PPD COP. Within Amgen, Balfrey has held various positions representing process development on process teams, capital projects, and standardization efforts. Her current role consists of leading teams of subject matter experts standardizing chromatography and column packing platforms. Previous to Amgen, she worked in manufacturing and technical services groups in the Research Triangle Park at a contract manufacturer, Covance Biotechnology Services, now Diosynth Biotechnology. ISPE had an early influence on Avril by sponsoring her senior design project at North Carolina State University, where she holds a BS in chemical engineering with a bioscience concentration.
